My favorite vegan bloggers on Instagram – Kaylie Grace

Facebooktwitterpinterest

Hello lovelies!

As I said in my previous post, I follow a plant based diet. You can say I am vegan too (I will talk about that later). But now this post won’t be about me.

Tonight I start a series with my favorite vegan Instagram bloggers. The first one will be Kaylie (Instagram: @purelykaylie, website: www.purelykaylie.com). I really like about her that she makes easy but gorgeous looking food. As her account’s name says, she uses pure background and the food gets the main role. She is so inspiring, I also love the colors, she uses. Follow her, if you didn’t do it already!

Some pictures from her I really like:

Interview with Kaylie

1. How old are you and where are you from?

I am 22 years old and I am from California.

2. Since when are you vegan?

I have been vegan since the beginning of 2015.

3. Why did you decide to be vegan?

I decided to try out the vegan diet after coming across a few vegan YouTube channels online. I was immediately intrigued by these individuals; they seemed so full of energy and their meals were always colorful, abundant, and looked absolutely delicious! At the time, I had been struggling with bloating and fatigue. I knew the diet I had been consuming – which was heavily focused on meat and dairy – was not sitting well with my body. Within one week of trying the vegan diet, my energy levels surged and the bloating disappeared. I felt SO much better. I quickly realized that I would never return to my old diet again. Over time, I learned about the positive environmental impact a vegan diet has on the planet and the way animals are severely mistreated in slaughterhouses. This fueled my passion for veganism even more. I always say that going vegan was a choice for my health, but staying vegan was a choice for the planet and the animals. 🙂

4. What do your friends and family think about your decision?

I was the first person in my family to go vegan. In the beginning, I’m sure they thought I was a little bit crazy. We all grew up eating meat and/or dairy at nearly every meal. A standard American diet usually includes cow’s milk and chicken’s eggs at breakfast, chicken at lunch, and beef or pork at dinner. That’s a lot of animals and animal secretions to be consuming in one day! After I transitioned to a vegan diet, I think I inspired some positive dietary shifts within them. I definitely do not take all of the credit, though. I never pushed or pressured them to go vegan. Instead, I invited them to watch documentaries about animal agriculture with me, answered any questions they had about the vegan diet, and always tried my best to remain approachable rather than defensive about my choices. Over time, they saw how passionate I was and wanted to try it for themselves. Now, nearly four years later, five of my family members have joined me in going vegan! Hopefully more will join in the future.

5. If you have a boyfriend/partner/husband, is he/she vegan too? (If you don’t have a partner right now, tell me about a future one)

I am absolutely open to my future partner being non-vegan. However, it is necessary that they are at least open to the idea of veganism and accepting of my choice to be vegan.

6. How do you feel since you went vegan?

Since going vegan, I have discovered a passion for cooking. This was not something I enjoyed before I went vegan, but I love creating colorful meals in the kitchen now. A huge benefit to the vegan diet is that my meals are far more delicious now than they ever were before. Also, I don’t feel guilty about indulging in vegan junk food once in awhile.

7. How often are you sick?

I definitely get sick way less often that I used to. I largely attribute this to the fact that my diet is full of fruits and vegetables, which provide me with loads of nutrients that support my immune system.

8. What is your favorite meal for breakfast/lunch/dinner?

My favorite breakfast meals are colorful smoothie bowls or warm bowls of oatmeal topped with fresh fruit. My favorite lunch and dinner meals are chickpea coconut curry, black bean chili, and veggie burgers.

9. Do you think that eating plant based food is expensive? Where do you buy food?

Eating plant-based can be as expensive or as affordable as you want it to be. The idea that a vegan diet is expensive is a huge misconception. Oats, potatoes, sweet potatoes, beans, lentils, and bananas are amongst the cheapest foods on the planet. It only becomes pricey when you start purchasing tons of mock meats and cheeses. Luckily, those products are not necessary for the vegan diet!

10. What do you love the most about veganism?

I love that it has given me a purpose and a passion. If you are reading this, it is likely that you are fortunate enough and privileged enough to consume three meals per day. That means you are given three opportunities every single day to make a conscious decision; you can choose to improve your health, better the environment, and protest the abuse of animals at every meal. Why not contribute to the cause?

11. Give some advice to beginners!

My advice is to not give up! A slip up every now and then, especially when first going vegan, should not discourage you. If you accidentally eat a non-vegan meal or give in to a temptation (although, I promise temptations no longer exist after the first few weeks), don’t beat yourself up over it. We live in a very non-vegan world so mistakes are bound to happen along the road. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Even if you consume just one vegan meal per day, or even just one vegan meal per week, that is an appreciated contribution and you should feel proud for making that positive decision.

Thank you so much Kaylie for this interview! 🙂
